The MBA in Maritime Management provides a unique educational experience with a focus on an applied approach to the maritime industry, centred on strategic and analytical thinking. The MBA provides learning outcomes focused on industry needs by applying business principles, such as management and finance to the maritime industry, and a strategic perspective to international issues relating to maritime management.
Our 3 specialisations are designed to give you the opportunity to explore the theory and practice of business logistics and supply chain management, business operations and technology in the context of maritime industry. This course will provide you with managerial skills that can be applied to a variety of sectors within the maritime industry.
This course maybe be completed in as little as 1.5 years for those who have completed prior study or work experience in a related area.
The Maritime Logistics specialisation will provide you with an MBA qualification that equips you for managerial careers in business logistics and supply chain management in the context of the maritime industry. The specialisation consists of 4 units – port management and strategy, international trade, business logistics, and supply chain management.
This specialisation is designed to provide engineering professionals with an MBA qualification to develop their management careers in the maritime industry. Your studies will be focuses on the application of technology in the maritime industry and consists of four units – design of marine machinery systems, principles of naval architecture, marine surveying and inspection, and marine superintendency.
The Shipping Operations specialisation is designed to provide professionals working in the maritime industry with an MBA qualification to advance their management careers. The specialisation aims to expand your understanding of shipping operations and related fields, while further developing your managerial skills. Gain advanced shipping operations knowledge through four specialisation units – maritime safety, marine surveying and inspection, port management and strategy, and harbour operations and services.
The Master of Business Administration in Maritime Management (MBAMarMgt) includes the following options:
- 2-year (16 unit) MBAMarMgt – this is the default course option for students who have not completed prior study or work experience in a related (cognate) area.
- 1.5-year (12 unit) MBAMarMgt – this is the default course option for students who have completed prior study or work experience in a related (cognate) area
A cognate undergraduate degree would be in the same or related area eg, maritime management, logistics management, supply chain management, nautical science, marine engineering, maritime engineering (naval architecture, ocean engineering), and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain management
Cognate industry experience would be in the fields of maritime, transport, logistics and supply chain.
All students will have the flexibility of developing their research training through either a dissertation or an Industry project.

Entry requirements
For Domestic students
The College of Sciences and Engineering may accept as a candidate for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Maritime Management a person who has:
• An undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution and at least two years’ work experience (NOTE 1.); or,
• A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Maritime Management or a related discipline; or,
• A professional qualification such as a Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 1 (Unlimited) or Chief Engineer and at least two years’ work experience; or,
• If a first degree or professional qualification is not held, candidates may apply to the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management for consideration as a candidate. These applicants are assessed on their work experience, current managerial responsibilities and any other qualifications.
• Applicants intending to undertake Maritime Technology Specialisation must have:
An undergraduate degree in engineering; or
A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Engineering; or
A professional qualification in engineering such as a Certificate of Competency Chief Engineer or Engineer Class 2.
NOTE: An applicant lacking the requirement of at least two year’s work experience will normally need to complete Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management before being admitted to MBA in Maritime Management. In some instances, however, students may be admitted directly to MBA in Maritime Management but will still need to successfully complete all four units in their first semester of enrolment (i.e. the equivalent of Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management) in order to be allowed to continue in the course.
For International students

Credit transfer
Students in this course may be eligible for a reduction in the volume of learning of:
- up to 100 credit points if they have completed a Bachelor Honours (AQF 8) award in a cognate discipline; or
- up to 50 credit points if they have completed a Bachelor (AQF 7) award in a cognate discipline.
Cognate disciplines for the Master of Business Administration in Maritime Management are maritime management, logistics management, supply chain management, nautical science, marine engineering, maritime engineering (naval architecture, ocean engineering), and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain management
Articulation
The Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management, the Graduate Diploma of Maritime Management, and the MBA in Maritime Management form an articulated sequence of awards for which full credit is granted in the higher level award for all corresponding coursework completed in the lower level award of the articulated sequence.

Domestic students
Options for this courseThis is a full-fee course, which means you’ll need to pay the entire amount for your studies. Commonwealth supported places are not available in this postgraduate course. However, there are still support options available for eligible students to help you manage the cost of studying this course.
You may be able to fund all or part of your tuition fees by accessing a FEE-HELP loan from the Australian Government. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists domestic full-fee students to pay for University, which is repaid through the Australian Tax System once you earn above a repayment threshold. This means you’ll only have to start repaying the loan once you start earning above a specific amount.

An important note on Youth Allowance and AustudyThe Department of Social Services has approved some accredited and professionally oriented Masters courses for student payments through Youth Allowance or Austudy. 2024 Total Course Fee (international students): $ 75,193 AUD *.
Course cost based on a rate of $36,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
